What is emergency care

What is emergency dental care?

Emergency dental care means same-day treatment of the underlying cause in situations that cannot be left to wait — such as severe pain, infection, trauma, or bleeding. The goal is first to eliminate the pain and risk, then to plan the tooth's definitive treatment.

In dental emergencies, time directly affects treatment success: the window for re-implanting a knocked-out tooth is measured in minutes, and an untreated abscess can spread to surrounding tissues. That is why our clinics are planned to be open every day, including weekends and late hours.

What situations count as a dental emergency?

Severe, persistent tooth pain, an abscess accompanied by facial swelling, a broken or knocked-out tooth from a fall or impact, and uncontrolled bleeding are all emergencies that must not be left to wait.

Is it okay to take a painkiller and wait?

Painkillers only temporarily mask the symptom; the underlying cause — decay, infection, or a crack — continues to progress. Even if the pain subsides on its own, the problem usually returns worse.

What does an on-call dental clinic mean?

It is a dental clinic that provides care outside regular business hours. ÖzbuDent branches are open every day from 09:00 to 03:00; even if tooth pain starts in the middle of the night, you can be seen without waiting until morning.

Why ÖzbuDent

Why choose ÖzbuDent in an emergency?

What makes a difference in emergency dental care is being able to reach the clinic closest to you, as quickly as possible, and receive the right treatment.

Open until late

Our clinics provide care every day until 3 AM, including weekends and public holidays — you never have to wait until morning for tooth pain.

Same-day treatment

Emergency patients are prioritised; examination, imaging, and the initial pain-relieving intervention are all completed within the same appointment.

8 branches on both sides of the city

You are directed to the nearest of our 8 branches on both the Anatolian and European sides of Istanbul, minimising travel time in an emergency.

Preventing complications

Early intervention often prevents an abscess from spreading, loss of a broken tooth, and the need for more extensive treatment. Definitive care is planned after emergency treatment.

Emergency situations

When should you come to us right away?

Each of the situations below should be evaluated without delay; early treatment both shortens your pain and protects the long-term health of your tooth.

Severe tooth pain and abscess

Throbbing pain that wakes you from sleep and swelling in the face or gums often signals that infection has reached the nerve. Drainage and the start of root canal treatment relieve the pain the same day.

Broken, loose, or completely knocked-out tooth

The first 30–60 minutes are critical for a tooth knocked out by trauma; if stored properly and brought in quickly, the tooth can be re-implanted. For broken or loose teeth, early intervention also saves the tooth.

Lost filling, broken crown, or damaged denture

An unprotected tooth is vulnerable to sensitivity and rapid decay; sharp edges can injure the cheek and tongue. A temporary restoration protects the tooth while a permanent solution is planned.

Wisdom tooth pain and gum-related swelling

Infection (pericoronitis) around an impacted wisdom tooth can progress to difficulty opening the mouth and pain on swallowing. The area is relieved, and extraction is planned in the same period if necessary.

Interventions

What treatments are performed in a dental emergency?

The main emergency interventions performed based on the source of your complaint following examination and X-ray.

Pain & Abscess TreatmentSame day

The source of infection is identified; the abscess is drained and, if needed, the first stage of root canal treatment is performed to relieve internal pressure and pain in the same session.

Trauma TreatmentBroken · knocked-out tooth

A knocked-out tooth is repositioned and splinted to adjacent teeth; broken and loose teeth are repaired with a filling or temporary restoration to protect them.

Emergency Tooth ExtractionNon-restorable tooth

A tooth that is severely damaged or has an uncontrollable infection is extracted under local anaesthesia. Impacted and partially erupted wisdom teeth are also managed within this scope.

Temporary Restoration & Denture RepairFilling · crown

A lost filling is sealed with a temporary filling; a dislodged crown is re-bonded if suitable; broken dentures are repaired to protect the tooth and surrounding tissue.

Emergency process

What to expect when you come in for an emergency?

A fast, controlled four-step process from the moment you arrive until your pain is relieved.

Reach out to us

Contact us via our WhatsApp line or directly at one of our branches; your complaint is heard and you are directed to the nearest open clinic.

Emergency exam & imaging

Your dentist identifies the source of pain through examination and X-ray; emergency patients are seen without delay.

First intervention to relieve pain

Under local anaesthesia, the necessary initial intervention — drainage, start of root canal treatment, temporary restoration, or extraction — is performed in the same session.

Definitive treatment plan

Once the emergency is under control, definitive treatment for the tooth is planned; you receive a follow-up appointment and aftercare instructions.

First aid

What should you do before reaching the clinic?

Correct first aid improves treatment outcomes; incorrect actions can make the situation worse.

Store a knocked-out tooth correctly

Hold the tooth by the crown without touching the root; if it is dirty, rinse it briefly with water and transport it in milk or between your cheek and gum. Reach the clinic as quickly as possible.

Cold compress for swelling

Apply an intermittent cold compress externally to the painful area. Applying heat or placing substances such as garlic or aspirin directly on the painful area damages the tissue.

Stop bleeding with pressure

Place a clean gauze pad on the bleeding area and apply gentle biting pressure; frequent spitting and rinsing prolong the bleeding.

Do not start medication on your own

Taking antibiotics without a dentist's recommendation masks the condition and delays proper treatment; always inform your dentist of any medications you are currently taking.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about emergency dental care

I have severe tooth pain in the middle of the night — what should I do?
You don't need to wait until morning; our clinics are open every day until 3 AM. Contact us via WhatsApp or at the nearest branch and you will be seen for an emergency examination, with the source of your pain treated in the same session.
Can a completely knocked-out tooth be saved?
Yes, but time is critical: the highest chance of success is within the first 30–60 minutes. Hold the tooth by the crown without touching the root, transport it in milk or between your cheek and gum, and your dentist will re-implant and splint it for follow-up.
Will a dental abscess go away on its own?
No. Even if the pain eases, an abscess will not heal without treating its source; the infection can spread to surrounding tissues and, rarely, further. The source must be eliminated through drainage and root canal treatment or extraction.
Are you open on weekends and public holidays?
Yes. ÖzbuDent branches are open every day from 09:00 to 03:00, including weekends and public holidays; you can reach us year-round for emergencies.
Will I feel pain during emergency treatment?
No. All emergency interventions are performed under local anaesthesia after the area is fully numbed. The anaesthetic technique is adjusted for infected areas; the goal is to have you pain-free as quickly as possible.
How much does emergency dental treatment cost?
The cost depends on the source of the pain and the intervention required (drainage, root canal, extraction, restoration) and is determined on a case-by-case basis. Your situation will be assessed at the emergency examination and a clear treatment plan will be presented.
